The Ministry of Lands, Agriculture,Fisheries, Water and Rural Settlement handed over tillage machinery and equipment, part of the Belarus Farm Mechanisation facility, to the District Development Fund(DDF) today in Southerton. The Ministry handed over a total of 18 – 80 horse power tractors and 9 eight row planters as part of the DDF recapitalization process implemented under President Mnangagwa’s administration. The donation is timeous since it comes as DDF is sized with preparations for the forth coming 2021/22 summer cropping season, which comes on the backdrop of last year’s bumper harvest. The decentralized operational structure of the DDF will ensure maximum coverage across the length and breadth of the country and as a result no farmer will be left behind. With the supply of appropriate implements even the highly successful Pfumvudza programme will be mechanized and will lead to increased hectarage. President Mnangagwa is on record saying that once the nation achieves 350 000 hectares under tillage, the nation will revert to being the bread basket of Africa. The donation will see vulnerable groups such as widows, orphans and child headed families benefiting.
