Pfumvudza preparations for the 2021/2022 farming season in Mashonaland East province have begun in earnest. This follows the bumper harvest recognised by communal farmers under the same scheme in the 2020/2021 farming season.

AGRITEX Officers in all districts were trained in June and have started training farmers as they start to implement the second phase of Pfumvudza for the 2021/22 farming season. “6 043 rural households have been trained to date,” confirmed Mr Leonard Munamati the Provincial Agriculture Extension Officer (PAEO).

According to the PAEO, the number of Pfumvudza plots have been increased from 3 plots in 2020/21 season to 5 plots during 2021/22 season per household.

Farmers in all the nine districts have started land preparation in anticipation of early delivery of inputs. Preparations include the digging of planting holes and collection of mulching materials for the Pfumvudza plots
