Government together with development partners is repairing and rehabilitating boreholes in Kariba’s Nyaminyami Rural District. To date 11 boreholes have been repaired out of a target of 30 in a program that started in September.

The Government’s drive is to ensure that people have access to quality water in right quantity. Many wards in Nyaminyami were experiencing water challenges with many boreholes breaking down while some yielded low volumes of water. Kits for borehole repair and rehabilitation were provided by UNICEF. DDF is leading the exercise of repairing and rehabilitating the boreholes. In addition pump minders are being trained from the community, while Ministry of Health officials are training the communities on how to manage the water points. The program comes in hand especially as the country battles Covid 19. The initiative has however been drawn back by the rains that are pounding the area and a community that now spends more time in the fields tending to crops.
