Farai Makubaza in Victoria Falls. President ED Mnangagwa accepted the conferment of the Freedom of the City of Victoria Falls conferred upon him by the newly established city at a function held at Kingdom Hotel here in Victoria Falls early this morning.
‘It is with utmost appreciation that i accept and receive this great honor of the conferment of the Freedom of the City of Victoria Falls.’ President Mnangagwa went on to highlight that the honor is not a personal victory, rather it is in recognition of the sacrifice made by veterans of the liberation struggle. ‘ The conferment goes beyond the recognition of my own personal contributions, but is a dedication to the many living and departed heroes and heroines of our protracted liberation struggle for independence,’ he said. His Worship the Mayor of the City of Victoria Falls, Councillor S Dhlamini presented the President with a casket containing a scroll and a key, the key symbolically representing trust and honor.
The key in olden days symbolized the freedom of the recipient to enter and leave the city at will, as a trusted friend of city residents.
