Gokwe North district has so far received 359.85 metric tonnes of maize seed, 479.7 metric tonnes of compound D fertilizer, 29.996 tonnes of sorghum and 2.998 tonnes of sesame for the pfumvudza program, Grain Marketing Board (GMB) Manager for Nembudziya Depot Mr Paul Mundandi has revelaed.
The inputs will cover 71970 households for maize seed,9594 households for compound D, 14998 for sorghum and 1499 for sesame.
Mr Paul Mudandi said inputs have been delivered to fifteen out of the thirty six wards, ‘each household was receiving five kilograms of maize seed, 50 kg fertilizer, two kilograms of sorghum and sesame,’ he said.
The District Development Coordinator, Mr Martin Musakanda said only farmers who have prepared their land will benefit from the program and added that the distribution of the inputs should be done in a transparent manner devoid of corrupt tendencies. Meanwhile farmers have been complaining of steep transport costs, but this time around GMB says it will bear the cost of transportation.
