President Mnangagwa acknowledged the creation of employment by local companies who are working on road and infrastructure development in Chimanimani. President Mnangagwa said this at Skyline, after touring the district where he commissioned roads, bridges and social amenities. The district was ravaged by Cyclone Idai in March 2019, where lives where lost, roads and infrastructure was completely destroyed, Government’s response to the disaster was termed ‘Build Back Better’, and to this end, local companies were contracted to take a leading role in the effort.

Engineer C Malunga, speaking on behalf of all contractors expressed gratitude to the Government for showing faith in them, and to this end more than a thousand jobs have been created. ‘ This far, our combined employment figures stand at over a thousand, and for this we are grateful for your administration (President Mnangagwa) for showing faith in our work, and we will not disappoint,’ he said.
In response President Mnangagwa said that it is quite helpful that after such a disaster, the local communities can also benefit from the reconstruction efforts. ‘ I am happy that our decision to award local companies is bearing fruit not only in terms of the works that are being done on the ground, but also in terms of employment creation,’ he said. Nine local companies are leading the charge in rehabilitation works among them Masimba construction, Bitumen World, Fossil Contractors, Exodus, Roadstar, JR Goddard and Kuchi Construction.

Meanwhile President Mnangagwa commisioned 5 Bridges and roads that have been rehabilitated by the companies in Mutare this afternoon.
